Professional Review

An independent first-person shooter game, Superhot is all about taking your enemies down with guns and other weapons. The uniqueness of the game lies in the gameplay mechanics (time). The time in the game moves forward only when the player moves.

Graphics — 4/5

The graphics of the game are minimal, advanced and stylish. The environments and surroundings of the game are all white consisting of various 3D elements and objects. However, it’s the foes that steal the limelight. They are made of vivid red shade with orange-yellowish shapes always glowing on their body. The game also impresses you with its visual effects such as the effect of a shooting bullet, shattering of the enemies on shooting them, etc.

Gameplay — 4/5

You play the game in a minimalistic environment where you have to take out the hostile attackers. Do note that there are no special weapons or unlimited ammunition at your disposal. You are entirely dependent on the weapons of your enemies. Defeat them to take their guns and ammo. The game is quite realistic too. There are no refilling health bars in the game. Taking a single bullet from the enemy kills you and the game gets over.

The best part about the game is its time which moves only when you move. This uniqueness of the game helps you alter your movements so as to dodge the bullets.

The game introduces you to four different modes. First is the Endless Mode where it is all about standing against unyielding waves of enemies. Second is the Challenge Mode where there is no restart and you take Superhot with your hands. There is a Replay Director Mode which lets you edit and share your in-game moments. Last is Extras which has various Superhot mini-games, ASCII art, etc.

Controls — 4.5/5

When it comes to controlling the movement of the character and that of the camera and weapons, it is quite easy and intuitive. You can make the character move in any direction using the direction buttons on the controller. You can even use the joystick to do the same. With the X, Y, B and A keys, you can shoot your enemies, pick a weapon, punch and undertake similar actions.

Replay Value — 4.5/5

There are no regenerating health bars in the game. Also, you do not find ammunition and weapons placed conveniently in a box for you. You need to attack and kill the enemies to acquire these things. There are also different gaming modes which keep pique your interest level in the game by several notches. And, of course, the slowmo of the game is quite impressive too. All these elements fuse together to offer the game quite a high replay value.

If you are looking forward to getting your hands on a unique first-person shooter game, Superhot is the game that you shouldn’t miss. Right from the minimal surroundings to the brilliantly designed enemies, everything is sure to woo you. Other than its visual appeal, it’s the action of Superhot which will keep you on the edge of your seat. And remember, in the game, times moves only when you move. So, you better get moving!

For some unusual, out-of-the-box, and hypnotic gameplay, get your hands on Superhot. Rejoice action like never before.
